Lhyfe, a global player in the production of renewable green hydrogen for transportation and industrial applications, has won Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port's call for proposals (AMI) launched at the end of 2022 to construct a green hydrogen industrial production and distribution site in Montoir-de-Bretagne (Loire-Atlantique).

The call for proposals, issued on 21 November 2022, concerned the availability of land in Montoir-de-Bretagne, at the core of the French port's industrial and logistical ecosystem, for a project to establish an industrial renewable hydrogen generation activity.

Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port has embarked on a journey towards a new low-carbon economic model, which is still strongly reliant on fossil fuels, by focusing on tomorrow's energies for many years.

Furthermore, Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port intended to provide a solution to stimulate the growth of the region's hydrogen sector.

As part of this project, Lhyfe will construct an industrial unit in the north of the bulk port terminal with a production capacity of up to 85 tons per day of green and renewable hydrogen (installed electrolysis capacity of 210 MW). This facility is expected to be operational by 2028.

Additionally, Lhyfe generates green and sustainable hydrogen using water electrolysis in renewable energy-powered manufacturing units.

This initiative will help to decarbonise the industrial port complex and marine transportation. It is in line with the action plan for the creation of a "Low Carbon Industrial Zone" (ZIBaC), which is sponsored by the Association des Industriels Loire Estuaire (AILE), Saint-Nazaire Agglomération, the Estuaire and Sillon areas, and the Pays de la Loire Region.

A vision and a plan have been developed to convert the Loire Estuaire region into a low-carbon energy hub. This initiative confirms the vision and momentum that has been built up to speed the energy transition in the Loire estuary's industrial port sector.

The project's execution is subject to the granting of operating and construction permissions, as well as financial investment decisions.
