HAROPA Port increases financial figures amid container drop

The maritime traffic at the HAROPA Port complex in France reached 2.63 million TEUs in 2023, translating to 81.3 million metric tons, reflecting a decrease of 4.5% compared to the previous year's figures.

Additionally, HAROPA Port's liquid bulk traffic ended the year at 41.2 million metric tons, experiencing a positive uptick of 5%. On the other hand, solid bulk traffic faced a decline of 11% to 12.7 million metric tons, primarily attributed to reduced cereal exports.

In 2023, HAROPA Port, the alliance created by the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, maintained its market share in the northern range, resilient against a decline in maritime traffic. Demonstrating robust financial performance, the port achieved a turnover of US$451 million, marking a significant increase of 9.8% year-over-year. The ongoing development of a green Sequanian corridor remains a focal point, emphasizing substantial advancements in new fuel installations and the promotion of multimodality, according to HAROPA Port.

Additionally, the development of the carbon-free Sequanian logistics corridor is ongoing, bolstered by increasing investments: US$136 million from the public sector and US$500 million from the private sector.

Activities such as CO2 capture through the ECO2-Normandy consortium, industrial ecology, and the adoption of new energies in collaboration with the SOCRATE association highlight the collaborative efforts of the HAROPA port and its partners. Modal transfer has seen a one-point increase for river transport and a 0.2-point rise for rail transport from Le Havre. This positive trend is evident in the inauguration of two new rail links: Le Havre/Clermont-Ferrand and Voutré/Bonneuil-sur-Marne.

Meanwhile, HAROPA Port is actively enhancing its multimodal platforms, with the Bruyères-sur-Oise facility set to be operational by the end of 2024.

Continued investments by HAROPA PORT, amounting to US$217 million dedicated to multimodality, encompass various projects including the construction of river access to Port 2000 in Le Havre, the development of Port Seine-Métropole Ouest (West Metropolitan Seine Port), infrastructure enhancements for Port 2000 berths 11 and 12 (in collaboration with TiL-MSC investment), and the modernization of the Petit-Couronne quay in Rouen.
